The download is a construction and design instructions for a wooden base constructed from a railway sleeper, intended to hold a steel IPSC Popper target.

Key Features:

  • Peg Holes: There are 10mm diameter holes spaced 100mm apart running along the length of the sleeper. These holes are designed to peg the target base to the ground, ensuring stability during use.
  • Coach Bolts: Two coach bolts are recessed into the timber, with their placements being 100mm apart. These bolts are used to securely join two timber pieces together.
  • Magnetic Attachment: No hinges to break. On the side (cross-grain) of the timber, there are four magnets securely screwed into the timber to attach the steel popper target to the base.

  •

You Will Require

  • Railway Sleeper: 1.2 metres of railway sleeper or similar timber at least 150mm (6”) x 50mm (2”).
  • Coach Bolts: Two coach bolts at least 100mm long (excess length should be cut off with a grinder or hacksaw.
  • Drill and Drill Bits: High speed drill with 10mm drill bit at least 100mm long plus a spade bit at least 30mm in diameter to recess the head and nut of the coach bolts below the surface of the timber.
  • Four Screws: Timber screws approximately 40 to 50mm long to attach the magnets to the base. Four magnets are supplied with the target.

How to Build:

  • Material Preparation: Start with a 6" x 2" railway sleeper that's 1.2m long.
  • Drilling Peg Holes: Measure and mark spots 100mm apart along the length of the sleeper. Using a drill bit with a 10mm diameter, drill holes into the sleeper for pegging the base to the ground.
  • Preparing for Coach Bolts: At the desired joining point between the two timber pieces, mark two spots 100mm apart for the coach bolts. Drill appropriate recesses for the bolts to ensure a flush finish when they're installed.
  • Installing Magnets: On the side (cross-grain) of the sleeper, measure and mark the spots for the two magnet recesses. Use a drill or chisel to create the recesses. Once done, screw the magnets securely into place, ensuring they're flush with the timber's surface.

Notes:

  • Ensure all measurements are precise for a snug fit and optimal performance.
  • Always use safety equipment, like gloves and protective eyewear, during the construction process.
  • Target base should be pegged down and only be used on level ground.
  • Replacement magnets are available from www.ipscgear.com
